🚗 Toyota’s U.S. Footprint: Sustainability and Innovation

Renewable Energy Initiatives:

Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) is committed to achieving carbon neutrality across all its facilities by 2035. In FY2023, TMNA purchased 159,970 MWh of renewable electricity, accounting for 8.3% of its total electricity use. This percentage is expected to increase as more renewable energy projects come online. Toyota

Battery Manufacturing Expansion:

Toyota is constructing a battery manufacturing plant near Greensboro, North Carolina, set to open in 2025. The facility will employ 1,750 people and produce battery packs for up to 800,000 vehicles annually, supporting Toyota’s commitment to electric vehicle production.

Sales Surge Amid Tariff Concerns:

Toyota reported a significant boost in sales over the past two months as customers rushed to purchase vehicles before price hikes from new tariffs imposed by the Presidents trade policies. The Toyota division saw North American sales grow by 6.6% in March and nearly 8% in April.

BIG WIN!

On May 1, 2025, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) aiming to nullify California’s authority to enforce its Advanced Clean Cars II rule, which mandates that all new passenger vehicles sold in the state be zero-emission by 2035. The vote, 246-164, saw bipartisan support, with 35 Democrats joining Republicans.

This development is significant for automakers and consumers alike, as it could influence the trajectory of vehicle emissions standards and the adoption of electric vehicles across the United States.
