Toyota has a history of sharing some of its biggest inventions with the world outside of the automobile industry. Wake Forrest University is using Toyota's T.H.U.M.S. software to study the damaging effects of hits and tackles on football players. Their goal is to not only understand how to better treat injured players, but also to develop safer helmets. NASCAR used the same technology to help analyze high-speed impacts and improve the structure of the car seats and revise their 2010 rule book.
