Toyota Pushes Fuel Cell Technology Forward with FCV-R

With a sleek and shiny metallic blue coat, the Toyota FCV-R appears unlike any other. Running on fuel cell technology, the model operates unlike any other as well. Though most automakers have their eco-friendly eyes set upon developing new, highly-functional EVs, Toyota isn't giving up on the hydrogen-powered alternative.
Perhaps the Japanese-based automaker is so set on developing a hydrogen model because it's already conquered the hybrid market. Then again, it could also be because Toyota engineers are constantly at the forefront of alternative fuel technologies. Whatever the reasoning might be, there's one thing that isn't up for debate: Jimmy Vasser Toyota is certainly impressed.
Engineered to provide space for four passengers plus additional cargo, the Toyota FCV-R stores its fuel-cell unit below the passenger cell. This unit contains a 70 MPa high-pressure hydrogen tank that not only produces zero carbon dioxide emissions, but also has the ability to produce power for an impressive amount of time. More specifically, officials say the vehicle offers a drive range of around 435 miles...not too shabby.
At this point in time, the Toyota FCV-R is merely a concept. However, that doesn't mean the automaker isn't uber-serious about bringing a hydrogen-powered vehicle to market. In fact, Toyota plans to use the concept FCV-R model's technology to create a production model by 2015. As the automaker progresses along its hydrogen path, Jimmy Vasser Toyota in Napa, CA promises to keep you informed.
